Hi,

I want to buy one of those metal targets have several metal plates that falls over once you shoot on them and that can be reset by shooting another plate for .22.

Does anyone know of a particular brand of targets that are good?

I just want it so I can plink with a .22 at my cottage.

I believe Birchwood Casey makes one and I think this is the one that I have. It seems to work qiute well. I found that instead of painting it or putting stickers over the spinning targets its just best to hit them a bunch of times and they will turn light gray and they are then quite easy to see (assuming you are shooting against a dirt back stop (dark).

I have the Birchwood Casey model. Works okay, especially if you hit it with a shot of orange paint before each session. Some lighter loads (i.e. Rem Subsonics) don't have enough oomph to push the plates all the way over into the locked position, but hits are still easy to see and hear.

Bass Pro has a neat one I was looking at. It has a vertical post, with the plates mounted out to the sides. They swing all the way around 180 degrees when hit. I bet this would be great fun for two shooters. I'm thinking about picking one up and will post a report if I do.

I've got a birchwood casey and find the paddles don't allways lock up and often get knocked back down from hitting another paddle.
It seems to be quite sensitive in the way it needs to be set up to work right.
 
I think that 1 inch plate should do the trick:p

Seriously thought, I use 1/4 inch 24" x 24" steel with my 300 win mag (lots of dents) so I think that 1/8 should be just fine.

I have 2 of the birchwood casey targets and they are two different versions of the product. They each have good and bad points. the older one is bigger though the paddles are about the same size the paddles are held on by cotter pins which get shot off on a regular basis and it does not fold flat without diaasembly.

The newer one is smaller, folds flat and the paddles are held on with welds. but the support arms have a habbit of sliding back as the target is hit eventually the paddles will not flip back right, you need to dig it in a little and it works fine.

It is well worth the money it's the best 10/22 accessory since the high cap mag. :)
 
I have a whackload of steel sitting in the garage and access to a waterjet and plasma cutter at work so I was thinking of welding up a duelling tree for my Krinker Plinker but this is my first .22 and I have no idea what the penetration is like so I'm wondering what thickness of steel most rimfire targets are made from. I need to to withstand a decent amount of use but also to be light enough so that when the plates are hit that they'll actually swing to the other side.

Any suggestions?
 
I am interested in buying one of these from Canadian Tire (now for $42.99) and was wondering how close you have to be for these to work? I am interested in shooting it from 100 to 250 yards.
I find the cheap federal ammo doesn't really go much further (distances wise).

crappy tire resettable targets

we regularly shoot them at fifty yards and the swingers hit the top bar with quite a bit of authority so i would imagine that it would be no problem using them at 100 yards. never had a problem with the two i purchased from crappy but as stated they are hard to see once the stickers are shot off. I am going to try the orange paint on them the next time they go out.
 
I have the one from Canadian Tire too... The stickers will be gone in the first session... replacement stickers don't work... and I have to paint it frequently... Works perfectly well if you don't over tighten the reset bar when you assemble it.

It's alot of fun... be prepared to bring way more ammo than you're used to!
