.22 vs airsoft practice

22LR will actually go WHERE you AIM.

Airsoft is ass for any sort of ballistic performance or accuracy.

So uhh I guess real guns are lame? Since they look like real guns and you couldnt tell most of them apart at a glance.

Dont diss somebody elses hobby, and than look for support for the fire-arm community. A LOT of airsofters are fire-arm owners too.

Well actually old timers, I could kill you with an airsoft gun.

730-750 fps rapid fire can cut your arm or leg off (AK or G3 or M4 type)

500 fps out of high end airsoft pistols.

Heaven get an airsoft gun if you want to practice urban warfare safely.

I myself am going to give airsoft a shot using my
counter-strike tactics. I should do ok.

Buy the Mosquito and a $50. (226) springer from Wal-Mart.

The springer has plenty of accuracy and it feels great.

x2. What you want from your practice would decide the best course of action and gear to get.

If it comes down to accuracy and target practice, the best bang for your buck would be a good quality airgun, even a single shot. Something with a decent barrel, sights, trigger and grip.

You can shoot a lot of .177 for the cost of .22 and a lot of .22 for the cost of centerfire. But if your end goal is to better your centerfire, you still we need to practice with it too eventually.

Sorry, but its posts like this why people get their backs up against airsoft.

I have nothing against airsoft, whatever floats your boat, but do take exception when someone starts immature posturing.
 
I just bought the SW M&P clone, it was $44 and fires .177bb with CO2, The sights are good, the trigger is terrible, it's a very close copy but the slide does not move. The accuracy at 7 yards is decent with Crossman pellets, I will try to get better ones later, the trigger is the main reason the group opens, the first 50 rds are accurate but it degrades after that. This thing will shoot a pellet at 480fps and punches through lathe at 8 yards. I burned through a 150 pellets and then fired my M&P, the 9mm felt quite strong after the airgun.

Same here.

And if it is over 500 fps and 5.7 joules energy, it is a FIREARM (just like a real one), registration, transport and storage rules apply.
 
When I started shooting again this summer I had the same question...22 or airsoft (or just lots of 9mm, but that does add up pretty quickly). I had pretty much convinced myself that airsoft was the way to go, as my Browning .22's just weren't the same as my Glock. I started researching the various Glock 17 airsoft models and joined Airsoft Canada in order to hopefully get verified onto their For Sale forums, but then discovered CdnGunNutz and all the useful info contained here.

Now I have the Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit for the 17 on the way. :) IMO this is the only way to go, as it doesn't just simulate the sights, trigger and action of the Glock, it is the sights, trigger and action of the Glock. The bang isn't as loud, but otherwise this seems to be the perfect (relatively) inexpensive training tool.
 
What I use for indoor in my basement is the Remington CBee .22LR and my back stop is newspaper and/or several phone books. They're rated at about 700fps. Unless you don't want the smell go for a good quality airpistol for all your trigger control needs.

A good AS pistol for how much $$$$... I can buy a .22LR conversion for my G21 and buy a good used Ruger MK I, II or II or a S&W 622. I've had this discussion with my cuz about AS vs the real steel and I still stand firm on my belief on AS.

IMHO... save your money and get a few boxes of CBee's. That said... there's no accuracy with these LR's past 15 feet. But at least you can see if you flinch and practice all the trigger control stuff... just another alternative to dry-firing.

I bought two of those cheap plastic airsoft guns to practice with at home. I don't get out to the range a whole lot and needed practice because I couldn't hit the side of a barn.

The cheap berretta style one from wal mart was crap, the Taurus pt92 from SIR will put all shots into the same spot all day. After using that at home for a while my pistol shooting improved a whole lot the next time went to the range.

Please be careful shooting 22's in your basement. The shooting puts lots of lead particles into the air. It's not going to do anything to you, but if there are kids in the house the lead is definitely not good for them.

Also, the lead you put into the air will settle on all surfaces and objects in the basement and get tracked everywhere.

Yeah well I'm tired of people cutting down airsoft. Its as close to simunition that us kids can get.

It's cool because you can do Army/Police simulation training.

Where else can you do these activities?

Looking at Canadian Tire some of the Crossman Soft Air pistols are on sale for half price.
