Hey guys,

I have a question for you that likely is obvious, but for my piece of mind I will ask it. I was gifted a Winchester 94 Lever stamped 22 Win Mag. I am finding ammunition stamped 22 WMR (win mag rim). I have done the Google search and come up with "they are compatible " but stay away from 22 WRF ( win rim fire which is not a mag round)....

My question is, are they the same or merely "compatible " ?

Any help clearing this up would be appreciated....

Trebor,

I would like to hear what the differences are. From my research, they are either the same or at least interchangeable.....at this point, I am just looking for verification that I cam put .22 WMR into a rifle stamped .22 Win Mag...

From gunsopedia...
"The .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire, more commonly called .22 WMR, .22 Magnum, or simply .22 Mag, is a rimfire rifle cartridge."
Also,
"The .22WMR is little more than an enlarged, more powerful version of the much earlier .22 WRF[5] (which can also be fired in any weapon chambered for .22WMR).[6] It was for a time the most powerful rimfire round available,[7] and even outperformed the .22 WCF."

Basically, if your gun is marked Magnum or Mag or M, it will fire magnum bullets.

That is correct and I think it has been answered well. I may have confused things by including the .22 WRF reference in the first post. The question was about whether a .22 Win Mag and .22 WMR were the same and I believe they are.

Thanks all for the feedback...

Happy Father's Day
