I pose this question to any long term owners of any accurate 22 magnum rifle owners:

Is there such an animal, compared to a good 22 LR or equilivant quality
22 Centerfire?

How are you groups at 50, 100 and 200 yards, and with what ammo makes for the best performance accuracy/wise?

Cheers

Brutus what kind of gun do you have? We were out shooting a 597 mag yesterday, and we tried PMC Predators and Win SuperX, shooting at 50 meters, superX gave better groups, but the PMC was accurate enough for most killing situations, and is less expensive. The new best ammo for .22mag is CCI V-Max from what I have read. The current favorite with many shooters is the Win. Supreme and I have heard good things about the 50grainer from Federal, FS

I do not have a rifle in 22 magnum, however I was recently kind of curious in this calibre.
I just wanted to know what you 22 mag shooters had success with.

A good friend of mine Silverback has this same rifle, seems to me he had some success with a CCI brand of ammo.
I must ask him tonight.

Cheers and thank you.......

Mine loves the Winchester Super -X 40 grain JHP's, shoots them under 1" @100 yards.

Winchester Super-X @50 yards

22 mag accuracy

nice rig bulls eye.

i have a 22 mag savage thumbhole (btvs i think it's called.)

accuracy from the bench ?
it didn't like the light bullets (30 & 33 gr)
i got about 1 1/2 to 2"+ @ 50 yards.

with the 40 & 50 grain i got the odd 1"+ group but most were around
1 1/2 to 2" @ 100 yards.

i've never found the 22 mag to be any where near as accurate as 22LR, but it has it's place ... i like the cartridge but all i expect is gopher accuracy out of it.
if i miss i get closer.

See if you can get your hands on a 223. Centerfire rocks. I still have a 22lr and use it for close up stuff-grouse, rabbits etc that dont need to be blown all to crap but the 223 goes waaaaaayyyyyy out there and is a blast to shoot.
Pretty cheap for a cf too and reloadable to boot. No recoil either. Just be careful-you try it and youll want to buy it.

I didn't even try one and bought one anyway. Put 40 rounds through her the next day. At 50Yds 5 shot group holes were touching. I did not measure as I was only trying to sight in my scope, but waaaaay too much fun.

Just loaded up 47 rounds tonight with 60 grn SP's for it and my buddy loaded me 50 rounds with 55grn Match HP's the other day. Hope to get out Wednesday to test em out.

Sorry to Hijack your .22magnum thread but the .223's are a sh!tload of fun.

Oh yeah, I can see where this post is heading, believe me I have no plans to get rid of my 222 Remington 788....that rifle is just too good to lose.
I am fully aware of what 45 grain hollow point, and 46 grain calhoon bullets are capable of in handloads on small critters.

Well, if you already have a 223, why not play with bluedot loads and generic 45 gr JHP's at ~2500fps (or less). Noise, recoil and price in 22WMR territory, and you should be able to find something wery wery accurate

Just as soon as I test all the 22lr ammo I have waiting to feed the 1022. Soon as I mount the Weaver K4 I just got from a GNr yesterday. Should do the same with the 223 but the 22 is likely a full day for all I have yet to do. Got the old lady an old Springfield Stevens 22 to plink with too so I guess none of it will be hanging around unused. Any cf 22 has to be a lot of fun, 222, 22-250 etc. Dont even get me started on Martini actions. I really need one of those too. Good thing they are cheap to shoot eh?

You know I wanted a 22mag in the worst way for the longest time and then they seemed to peter. I know 3 people that had them and found they were not very accurate and expensive to boot. All of them sold. But they all have 22lr and a few of us have gone into 22centerfire instead with HUGE fun and accuracy. Glad I sidestepped that one. I get the feeling I came out ahead. Shoot both and enjoy them(but the cf22 stole my heart).

I get MOA accuracy with the Winchester Supremes (34 gr., I think) in my Ruger heavy-barrel stainless/laminate 22 mag. Everything else is 1 1/2 to 2 MOA, at 100 yards.

Of course, this is my fifth 22 mag, the other four were all cr*p no matter what you tried to feed them.

I get sub 1" groups at 100yds with my Marlin 25mn. I like the Super X JHP or FMJ rounds the best but the CCI rounds are good too.

If you are shooting .22 mag most of them benefit from checking the rim thickness and seggregating the rounds. I had a Ruger 77/22 mag that was a ho hum shooter until I started doing this.
