Hello !

I'm very partial to 22 magnum. I had a 9422M, sold it to import an American Predator via Irunguns. The Predator is everything I expected and more but... Lately I have been looking at 10/22 magnum. That pushed me toward Magnum Research and then to Volquartsen... I'm drooling with envi for those fine semi-auto guns. On my piece of land, I always have the Predator with me. I will only shoot it if something worth while present itself. But when it happens, I figure that if it deserve a shot then a couple more very fast ones shall be even better ! Yes, I want a precise semi-auto 22 magnum...

Budget wise I suppose I could make myself a couple more lunchs, save on restaurants and afford it but just thinking of my wife's happy face is enough for me to reconsider those fine and expensive guns...

What about the CZ 512 ? It seems readily available in Canada... From what I have read it also seems to be reasonnably precise and not as expensive as those high-ends 10/22 clones...

What do you think of the CZ 512 ? If you have one, are you satisfied ? You had one and sold it ? Why please ?

Thank you !

I bought thr CZ512 22mag a couple years. Its a very well made, smooth shooting and incredibly accurate semi. Its the nicest 22mag Ive owned and I really like it.

But, I bought it to carry ln my trapline and I havnt been able to bring myself to take it in the bush and have it bounce around in the gun boot on my ATV or snowmachine so Ive decided to sell it, otherwise it would be a deffinet keeper!

Not the question, but I'm fighting the urge to suggest a centerfire caliber if "precise" really is part of the requirement. I've yet to see a 22WMR rifle shoot accurately, reliably. (under 1" @ 100 yards) For the kind of money those VQ/MR models sell for...well, there are options. Anyhow, no experience with the CZ512, other than I think they're very homely looking things. The tactical is too...and that's coming from a huge CZ fan.

I've had all 3 and sold the Volquartsen and bought another CZ 512 but in a carbine. Both of my 512s are very accurate and reliable, although I havent put the carbine through the paces yet, have only had it a couple weeks. The difference between the 512s is my older version has two rods with springs that controls the bolt (for lack of a better word) and the carbine only has one. so time will tell if its as reliable but its certainly as accurate. The 512s are not pretty but you can field strip one quickly if you had to and I wouldn't worry to much if it ended up with some character marks from usage. The only issue I had with my original 512 was the bolt handle disintegrated on a cold winter day, CZ wanted me to send back to repair instead of sending me a replacement. I had a buddy manufacture me a new bolt instead, hope they fixed that issue with the carbine model....

I also have the Magnum Research in a 22 mag and the reason I chose to keep that over the VQ is simply due to size and weight. I hunt with my rigs and the VQ I had was gorgeous and shot ok but no better then the others but was heavy for a rimfire and for my liking.

First, thank you for your answers !
Second, yes I have seen that there are 2 or 3 CZ 512 in 22 wmr offered now in exchange...
Pricewise, they are interesting furthermore so that some are offered with an extra magazine.
The thing is that I have read that a the end of 2016, CZ up-dated the trigger of the 512, it's weight went from 8 to 4 pounds... Significant...
Also Tenda Canada quoted me a price of $ 703.49 taxed for a brand new 512 delivered to my house. Difficult to beat that ! That's why I haven't contacted any of the sellers yet... Thank you RT for your very positive answer !

That price is for a 512 with fixed sights, not the american without sights I would have prefered.

As for buying a centerfire caliber, I'm afraid I wouldn't use it...
On my land, I'm still dreaming about crossing ways with a coyote or even the elusive porcupines that I hate so much... A centerfire for crows on the ground or racoons ?

Even at that low price, I will have to buget this new gun some... A couple weeks to hide my buying so I won't have to sell another gun !

Thank you !

I own a Magnum Research .22 mag. I've never shot any other so I can't speak on those. I know my mag loves the 40g CCI pills! I tossed a VQ TG2000 Trigger Group into her & loves it!! That baby won't ever be leaving my gun room for sale!!!!! I give that rife a 10/10!

^absolutely..they respond very well to centerfires. lol Don't get me wrong, I really like 22WMR..but at one time, I was reluctant to break my rimfire ways thinking the jump to .223 was massive. Nope! Having owned 1, 22WMR rifle and multiple 17HMRs, my own experience with all of them has my rimfires basically limited to just 22s now (save for the HMR I take west for gophers)..everything else handled by centerfires. .223 and 17 Hornet, contemplating getting back into .243 Win. I should add, a 222 makes short work of porcupines, I watched a farmer friend pluck one out of his soybean field.

The so so accuracy performance of the otherwise fine 22 magnum (specific ammo!) has me returning to the 22 Hornet almost always.
To each his own.

^I bought a 17 Hornet after a long, unsuccessful search for the 22 Hornet I wanted. Just an awesome caliber, and surprisingly capable! Doubt it's much louder than a 22WMR (have never tested side-by-side) but it's a laser in comparison.

Last night over internet I bought a Cz 512 black carbine 22 wmr from Tenda, an Ontario dealer. Their site to me looked full of holes regarding that specific gun. The photo offered a shorter barrel with black beechwood stock and a 10 round mag. The description was of a standard length barrel and 22 lr caliber... Upon calling them this morning, I found out that I had really bought a 22 lr 512 ! I cancelled my order and began looking for another one...

In London Ontario, Bulls Eye was offering this beautiful (too beautiful ?) CZ 512 American without sights... Exactly what I wanted... It did cost $ 100. more but even from this far, it looks marvelous ! So I bought it ! It shall arrive sometime next week...

I believe that this beautiful gun will never be sold. I will let my 3 sons negociate this other heritage from their father...

Thank you !
