Marlin 795. Because 
If you like modifying brand new guns to make them shoot well, go for the 10/22. If you like strapping all kinds of accessories on to your gun, the 10/22 is also a good pick. If you want an accurate .22 semi out of the box, go for the Marlin 795. You can't go mod-crazy with it, but for some of us, that's not a priority anyway.
I've yet to shoot a modern .22 semi that didn't have a terrible trigger, but at least the Marlin can shoot...and my new 795 cost 1/2 of what my 10/22 did.
It's a smaller/lighter gun (a plus for me, a minus for others) with a very plastic stock, but it fits and looks good to me. Wish I'd never bothered with the 10/22.
Can't speak to the 597 issue, never really liked the look of them myself.

I'm going to have to second the Marlin. A 795 for a box mag. or a 60 for a tube mag.
IMO from what I've experienced and read they're a better choice for "right out of the box" reliability and fun than either of the other two mentioned.
But in the end it's about what you like and want that counts.

I'll vote for the 10/22, because I love to be able to change the gun into, well, whatever I want. It's a chameleon - you can make it into a hunter, a target rifle, tacticool blaster, or whatever your heart desires. And then you can change it back, anytime you want. Heck, you could have a bunch of different guns, all with just one action. I can change mine back from tacticool to my fancy wood stock & Bushnell scope for hunting, if I so desire, in just a few minutes.
As far as the trigger goes, even guys who buy the CZ 452/455's, Weatherbys, etc. seem to want to buy parts to improve the trigger (there are lots of threads here to prove that), so the Ruger is no different in that respect. Probably some Remingtons have a better out-of-the-box trigger (although mine didn't), but many shooter choose to upgrade anyway.
Of course, stuff is availalbe for the 597 too, but the Ruger has literally hundreds of trigger groups, barrels, stocks, etc. that you can get for it, and most of them are very affordable. I like that.

But the best deal out the box is a Marlin 795. Accurate, loads of features, light and slim all at great price. Only negative is a bare aftermarket. I'm probably going to cancel my Ruger order, though. All this money in magazines and after market parts add up quickly. A $250 gun becomes $500 to beat a $150 Marlin 795. Hardly seems right in my eyes, but I get one very cool looking gun. Still, I think my next purchase will be a Marlin 60 so I can use shorts in the tube with less hiccups than a mag. fed.
