.220 swift

try looking for a left handed swift if you think your search is tough. I had a rem 700 in 308 rebarelled to the swift and I am very happy with it fwiw

220 Swift ammo is not difficult to find. . . Wholesale Sports Nanaimo in stock at $40.99.

At Cabelas. http://www.cabelas.ca/product/4624/remington-centerfire-rifle-ammunition

I've manage to collect a large supply of brass and reloading is easy and economical. . What's not to like.

If you decide to purchase a 220 Swift rifle, the throat and bore should be thoroughly checked. . At 4000 fps Winchester upgraded their pre-64 M70 to 26" heavy stainless barrels because early on the bore and throat would wear prematurely if the shooter didn't allow the barrel to cool at intervals. . Stainless was the answer. .

220 Swift is the M70 in the center with the long scope

I have used all the high speed 22s......the 22-250, the 22-243, the 220 Swift and settled on a 30" heavy barrelled 22-284. I also have, and prefer a 26" HB 22-250 to the Swift. I have never found the Swift to be quite as accurate as the 22-250 and have had several of both over the years. Having said that, they were both very accurate enough for little critters. The very best I got from a custom barrelled 700 in the Swift was a tad over 5 shot 1/2" while I have had 2 X 22-250s that would very consistently shoot 5 shot 3/8" groups with 52 gn Sierra match bullets. Just could never get a Swift to go under the 1/2" mark with any bullet, match or otherwise.

I know that Browning FN Mauser that you are looking at, I checked it out too.
I thought about it but something just doesn't seem right to me.

If you were to take a chance and buy it, I'd recommend buying the bare gun without the scope. The price with the scope is not worth it.

May not be hard to find where you are but the only place that carries it here is Cabelas and they have 3 boxes of hornady 55grain.

What about it doesnt seem right? Im curious.

Without seeing the bore in person, a varmint rifle that is 65 years old in 220swift, I just think there's a chance it won't shoot as well as I'd like. The price is cheap, that can be a good thing or it could be a red flag.

Here are some pictures.

have a look at the ballistics of a 204 pushing a 39 gr blitzking. which is the 204 bullet in my opinion. you may surprize yourself. 3750-3800+ is doable and less than 30 gr powder.

That's an FN commercial sporter, not a Browning. Still a very nice rifle. I'd ditch the scope and those horrible rings and get a low safety for it. Timney makes a copy of the old Beuhler low-swing safety that doesn't require any mods to the rifle.

Is it advertised with or without the scope ?
Unless it was used very little the wear inside the barrel will influence the selling price.
I think that $ 700 would be my limit providing they keep the scope and mounts..
