Why is there not a lot of 220 swift rifles available? It looks like a great round on paper. Does anyone have experience with the 220 swift? I'm thinking about a new coyote gun and the 220 really catches my attention aside from the fact its hard to find a rifle in that caliber for sale. It's between the 220 or a 204 ruger. Any thoughts?
 
They are fun. My only ##### about the round is easily negated by paying attention while stuffing the mag. The swift is semi rimmed, and if you arent careful in a box mag, you can hang the rim of a round over the back of the one below it, when you stroke the bolt, it can sometimes cause the rifle to double feed. Like I said, paying attention while loading the mag is all that is needed to keep this from happening.
 
Ive owned a Remington VSSF in 220 swift a few years back and really liked the round. I then wanted another here this summer. After some thought I chose the .204 in a VSSF II. Ive owned a number of .204's and they are a great varmint calibre. Im able to spot hits in my scope, its easy to load for, cheaper then a 220 swift to load, all of this with bullets flying at over 4000 fps. The .204 will also be easier on a barrel if that concerns you.
32 gr bullets will throw a gopher up sometimes 8 ft in the air,,,its crazy, I also use the 39 gr.s for coyotes which never do exit and always kill on spot. Great fur round.
 
I always interested in that chambering...I have a set of dies Ill have to find a rifle for one of these days. PO Ackley though highly of it as an efficient Deer killer and he didnt' have access to half the bullets we do today.

I've heard that before but i've never had any problems.Availability of ammo is a draw back with the Swift if you don't reload but I do.I've had 22-250,204,222 and 223 and I like the swift the best.
 
a friend of mine had a swift and he also had chambering problems because of the semi rimmed case. I bought a 204 last spring and love it. My 22-250 has been sitting in my safe alot more.

Not as new or cool as the newer .204, .223 WSSM and even the relatively new 22-250, but coyotes have rgreat respect for the old unimproved Swift around here.
 
I have a custom built Swift on a Remington P-14 action. Big heavy bull barrel. Much to heavy to hunt with, but man what a laser beam! I handload for mine. For hunting I have a Remington 700 in .223. Remington chambers a 700 in Swift and has for quite some time now. With regards to availability of factory rounds, most sporting goods store should stock them.
 
Arguably, the best .224 factory varmint round ever.
A 26" or longer barrel suits the Swift best.
What's not to like about a 50 grain Ballistic tip or Hornady V-Max at 4000+?
55 grain pills at 3900?
If your rifle shoots them well, 40 Ballistic Tips will make 4200.
I have owned a number of Swifts over the years, and have never failed to be impressed.
Flat shooting, and arrives at 500 with still enough oomph to flatten a 'yote.
And don't swallow all the gobbledygoop about very short barrel life.
If you avoid shooting your Swift "hot", and clean it properly, it will give you
2500+ very accurate rounds.

I've got a 26" heavy Adams & Bennett barrel on my Swift and it just loves IMR 3031. 4000+ fps are no problem, and with a 50-55 grain bullet, almost zero bullet drop out to 200 yards which is all our range does.

i had someone build me a 220 swift and i love it , its fast and deadly accurate.i got two 22 250s , there good, but the swift has the edge over the 250s over 400 yards , i love ehm both but the 220 is makin a comeback , and i think the reason you dont see them readilly availible is cause those who have them ,keep them for ever (used ones).. i will try to post pics of my rig and groups
