221 fireball

Johnn... Of all they pretty guns you have posted... This one may well be the prettiest! I am not given to envy, but would dearly love to shoot that gun...

What I had prior was a Ruger #1 in 22-250. When I gave that to young son in the B.C. central interior,;) I refilled that void in my cabnet with the old Winchester high wall:D:D.

They must've brought a few in. I picked one up a few years back in a multiple gun deal I did with a guy here on the island.

Hung on to it and wish we could use something like it on gophers in Alberta. Doesn't shoot too bad. I have some targets 'somewhere' where I'd been testing a variety of weights of VMAX bullets but this is the only target I can find at the moment.

I sure do agree that we should be able to shoot pistols in places other than CFO approved ranges. Wow what a good 10 shoot group at a 100 yards with a pistol, I bet I couldn’t do a 10 shot group with a rifle that good, let alone most of the others on here. I tell you I sure look forward to the picture of the firearm and the group when I see the moose.

:)True enough and well said. For me, when it comes to .22 cal rifles, my old 'antique' rifle, scope and calibre combo/match that gets the call is an old custom Winchester high wall, in 219 Donaldson Wasp wearing a 10X J.UNERTL scope.

And it seems to have a definate 'preference' for 50gr VMAX:D.

That right there sir, is a fine looking shooting iron. I am generally not taken by older traditional styled rifles like this, or this type of scope, but that rifle screams class and exudes character. Nice piece!

I have a twin to that pistol, just waiting for my RPAL to come through. I made a trade for an XP100, also in 221 Fireball and can not stand to wait much longer, the anticipation is killing me! The only sad thing about the whole situation is that I can only shoot it at an approved range under a baffle. At least my local club has a baffled range out to 300 yards.

I can remember my dad owning a pair of XP100s in the early 70s in .221. He even had shoulder rigs for them. Fun little pistols. I won a few turkey shoots with one of them back then.

Johnn... ironically, I was flipping through some of my old Guns & Ammo magazines yesterday and found an article in the June 1977 issue on the XP-100 in .221 Fireball in the Lawson configuration with "two fisted" stock... a few pages over, I initially thought that I saw your Winny falling block, but turned out to be a Wickliffe 76 based on the old Stevens falling block.

Here's a pic of a "Two-Fist" stock for the XP-100;

Definately an interesting concept. I'm planning on getting back into a bit of handgun grip carving and presently awaiting an order of an assortment of tools from Brownell's. I have two plastic milk crates of pieces of nicely figured wood I received from a local wood carver. I also have a nice piece of curly maple coming from Ted that I was planning to use to re-stock my .410 'Ditch Chicken' Moose hunting dash shotgun.

It;) 'may' get diverted for a new two fisted XP-100 stock. A couple of CGN guys have expressed an interest in acquiring my XP-100, but I may have to hang on to it for a while longer.

nice rifle John. I do want!

Greg

:)Thanks Greg. I'm quite pleased with it and don't see myself putting it up for adoption in the foreseeable future. On an earlier photo post of it, I received a PM from a gentleman back east, asking if it had certain identifiable markings. When I confirmed that indeed it did, he stated that some time back, he had owned it. He asked that if I should consider selling it, he's like first kick at the cat. In all fairness, he'd have first option:).
