interesting... also explains the "super 222" on the case head
The .222 Rimmed (also known as 5.7x43mmR) is an intermediate centrefire rifle cartridge originating in Australia during the 1960s, specifically designed for single-shot rifles like the Martini Cadet action.
Performance is similar to the .222 Remington, but users must reduce loads because the brass walls are generally thicker, and extraction of high-pressure cases can be difficult due to the rifle's inefficient extraction method.
Key specifications include:
Bullet diameter: .224 in (5.7 mm)
Case length: 1.700 in (43.2 mm)
Rim diameter: .450 in (11.4 mm)
Primer type: Small rifle
Originally produced by the Super Cartridge Company, the cartridge saw production cease in the late 1970s before Bruce Bertram acquired the machinery and trademarks in 1982; brass is currently available from the Bertram Bullet Company or can be formed from 5.6x50mmR RWS cases. The cartridge has also served as a parent case for wildcats, including rimmed versions of the .17 Mach IV, .17-222, and .20 VarTarg.
