.222 Mag

A friend of mine got a good deal on a .222 Mag in mint shape, anyone here know a place that has brass or ammo in the Vancouver area?
We asked at the local HACS show in Chilliwack and they just laughed, lol

I found .222 Mag brass to be much easier to find than I thought it would be. In the four years I have had the gun, I have stumbled onto virgin brass at four or five places.

The weekend after I bought mine, I went into Shooter's Choice in Waterloo and they had 500 new cases in stock.

I was talking powders with a counter guy at Wholesale Sports (north end) last fall, and mentioned it was for a .222 Mag, and he asked if I needed brass. Stated that they had several hundred that they had no idea what they were going to do with.

Make some phone calls to the bigger dealers around the country and I think you'll find some soon enough. Insisting that it be sourced locally is sort of project suicide with a calibre that is relatively rare. And a tip of the hat to your friend: I looked for over a decade to get a .222 Mag, and the one I ended up with is a bit of a dog.

The hope of locally is more of a pipe dream, but I had to ask. As for the gun, its almost unfired if you know what I mean

I'll get him to phone the main stores and see what he come up with.

"...other suggestions..." Your buddy can order as much as he wants through his local gun shop. No$ler loads .222 Rem Mag ammo. Doesn't appear that anybody else does, including Remington. Tell him to order at least 5 boxes and be prepared to pay up front. It won't be cheap.
Epp's lists ammo and brass. Likely Nosler ammo. No prices on their site.
Remington makes brass, but not ammo. Shooter's Choice, in Waterloo, Ontario, wants $30.95 per 50 for Remington brass.
He might as well go right to reloading for it.

I have one too, and handload for it. I think Higginson still has some new brass at a good price.

Higginson has Gevelot brass. I have used it to make 204Ruger brass back when it was scarace.

Yes it would be easer to ream and trim the chamber to .223 but then it becomes a dime-a-dozen .223

As a .222 Mag its rare and should be enjoyed as is, In my opinion.

and, you'd loose about 100fps or so.

The world of shooting is not all about availability. If all I wanted out of .22 centrefire was to throw a 55gr bullet at 3200fps or so I would have just walked into wholesale sports.

One of my favorite calibers, I just ordered a new Cooper in 222 rem mag. The secret is to reloaded, having said that the local gun shop does have some older Remington factory ammo, but it is costly. Glenn
