222 or 223 for benchrest accuracy

in a custom action (barnard or BAT) which one would group the smallest most of the time and with which bullet weight, as I have a barnard at the gunsmiths with a kreiger barrel and need to choose,

If you plan to shoot within 200 yards all the time I think the .222 would be fun to play with, farther out I'd go with the .223 for sure.

I have both, Every body is impressed on how accurate the 222 is out to 200 hundred (300 if there is no wind), it is a stone stock tikka . What twist rate is the Kreiger? In a fast twist 223 for sure, my 222 has a 1-14 so it likes 50g and lighter bullets, I could not get 55gr to shoot as tight. My 223 is 1-9 and shoots better than I can out past 600 with 75gr amax. I think I could get it more accurate at close range if I try hard but I have it set up to go long.
 
Boy, the 223's I have seen with Kreiger on the Barnard have been incredible. That would not be a wrong choice. That's for certain.
 
I have both, but not in great actions or barrels. The .222 edges out my .223 out to 200 yards. Years ago the .222 was the bench rest gun of choice out to 200
 
If I was starting with a blank sheet of paper I would go with the .223. Yes, .222 has set benchrest records, but .223 is close enough in case design to be acceptable. Brass availability is much better in .223, I would go with Lapua brass and one of the good benchrest-grade projectiles. 53g HP are often mentioned in that context.
