222 rem

Sent a CIL 830 in .222 to my dad as he was recoil sensitive for Ontario /Manitoulin Island whitetails.. I loaded 55gr Win bulk SP with 24gr of win 748 and a 6X Banner. He shot a buck 12 years in a row and 3 problem black bear one round per customer. Shots under 100 yards.

I've owned six or seven .222 rifles one the years. Still have two and like them a lot. Nobody seemed to suggest the favourite loads that all my rifles shoot well: Hornady V Max or Nosler Ballistic Tip 40 gr. plastic tipped boat tails. H4198 and Remington 7-1/2 primer. Accurate, fast, and deadly in every .222 rifle I've shot that combination in.

OH, and in my experience, that Remington 55 gr. FMJ is the worst shooting bullet I've ever tried in any .222. Just abandon it.

Good day all, I have a BSA cf2 in 222 rem, the rifle is like new, supposedly low round count, but I’m having a hard time to find a proper load that group well( hard to find nodes), the bullet I have are 55gn fmj(Remington bulk) and some Speer 55gn varmint(I didn’t try loading those yet)
I tried a bunch of powders, cfe223, IMR 4198, h335(seems to be the best one so far velocity wise and groups wise).
Is it possible that that rifle doesn’t like fmj bullets? Those fmj bullets have a cannelure and I sit the bullet to it( I think that is all the magazine will allow)!
Any ideas? Anyone have one of those rifles and can chime in on what it likes.
Cheers
my 222 shoots great with 40 and 50grn vmax. beautiful consistent groups. using 21 grains imr 4198

Well that would explain why I can’t get them to shoot! Thanks! Anybody wants some Remington 55gn fmj…. 🙄

Me too, tighter groups and way cheaper. Best groups ever shot were with those bullets and either IMR4198 or H322. 1/4"and often less.

I have a custom barreled 700 that has shot well with select FB bullets but not as good as expected. We got a few boxes of the SP Varmint variant in the local store and I bought a box to try. 5 different powder charges of what had proven to be my to date best powder/primer combo. All 5 under .5 inch ! The best 2 loads are consistently under .3” and I’ve never had any other bullet produce these results in just under 700 rounds down range through this barrel. Time to stock up 👍

I already am stocked up, and a really nice bonus is that these bullets shoot faster, flatter, further and just as accurately out of my .223. Hornady 50 SPSX at 3350 fps, pure hxll on gophers, launches them to new heights :)

Been loading for 222 for years. I'd start by trying a 52 or 53gr bullet. For powder consider trying Winchester 748 or VV N133. These have always been the best for me. The winchester 748 is popular with 222 benchrest shooters, and supposedly is easier on your barrel. It meters really really nice.
