222 Rem

I was wondering if anybody out there new the load for the 222 Rem. When it was the bench rest champ. Any input would be great.

My load was a 52gr Sierra with BLC2. Would put five into .3 at 100yds from an old BSA Not bench rest material though

I didn't shoot benchrest, but my .222 also did very well using BL-C(2).

A lot of accuracy loads in the 222 Remington centered arount IMR or H4198.
Common used recipes were 52 grain Sierra HPBT with 19.5 grains of H4198
Obviously slightly one way or other of this load could be made to "tweak" the accuracy in an individual rifle.
Other powders that shine in the 222 are W748, BLC2, Norma 200 and 201, H322, H4895, IMR3031, Vihtavuori N130, 133. Alliant RL10X, RL12. [probably some I have missed]

This calibre was my first to relaod, First for a Savage 340 Bolt action, then later for a Sako.

I think that I was using 20 gr. of Ball C, also 4198, about 19.5 grains. under 5 grain Speer bullet.

Since then, I have reloaded many calibres but the .222 Rem was a proper b***h if the case lube was wrong and the small area on the rim could be pulled of very easily >>> stuck case! At that time, 1958-60, I was reloading for a fox hunter who had an .30 M1 carbine rebarreled and modified for the .222 Rem. And being for a semi, the M1, had to full length every casing.

In my own two bolt guns, neck sizing was adequate.

According to the whims of my Sako Vixen .222, the load we like best is 26.8 grains of H335 under a 40 grain Ballistic Tip. It launches at 3500+ fps, shoots 0.5 - 0.75 MOA, and has a real knack for ruining a coyote's day

I always found the 222 to be really easy to load for. It shoots well with a wide combination of loads.

I've used everything from light loads with Blue Dot, and 4227, to H-322, and surpus 735 with good results. My main 'gopher load' used 40 grain Noslers over WC-735, and came in around 1 to 1.5" at 200 yards reliably.

222, easy peasy to reload from my experience.
I presently use 46 grain Winchester HPs for the Hornet over WW748.
Very accurate, very destructive.

although not a benchrest load this load with 21.5gr of Reloder 7 under a 40gr vax gives me very nice groups at 100 yards with 3 of the 4 222's I have. The other shoots a Speer 50gr TNT with H322 powder.
Like Eagle mentioned there are a great many powders to choose from to make great 222 loads. FS

Tis indeed a great cartridge, I quite useing IMR 4198 and switched to H322. Meters nicer.

This is exactly what I shoot out of my old Rem 788 and works great for me.

What he said... with Sierra 50 grain spitzers. I shoot 20.5 IMR4198 as have found the 21 grain load to show some pressure signs. I load Sierra 50 grain Blitz bullets as they are thinner skinned and designed for 222 velocities. You can also play around with Hornady 40 grain V-Max as well.
