.222 Remington Magnum. Is it extinct?

If the rifle was available at a very attractive price, you could buy it and have the gunsmith set the barrel back a half inch and re-chamber as a 223. But it would be a slow twist barrel good for up to 60 gr only.

If you all ready handload, getting brass and dies is not difficult.

Thanks again guys. I thought Nosler was done making it, but it appears I am wrong. Like I said, I am not seeking a rifle chambered in this calibre, I am looking at a rifle chambered in it already. It's not expensive per se, and likely not worth the bother of rechambering.

After taking a closer look, Nosler does NOT make it or at least it says "out of stock". The link to the site is just for load specs.

I have always had a interest in it.I have seen a few rifles forsale in it but usally pretty high priced and that has always deterred me.Someday if I find a good deal I might buy one.I have a 222rem in a 700 that I use for gophers, it is one sweet shooting rifle and I have always thought I would like the mag version to go with it.

The rifle I was considering is a bit of an odd ball. It's a Heym 22A combo with a 16ga over .222 rem mag. I thought it may be good for SW Ont coyotes. Still looking for a drilling though.

the 22A is tough to research. Looks like an early 70s model made with a single set trigger. Not sure on it's reliability but it is a Heym after all.

As long as 204 Ruger brass is made, the 222 rm will live on.

The parent brass is possible if you dont mind a wait but I would just make it from 204 Ruger and live happily ever after. Given the application, I doubt you are planning to shoot buckets of rds anyway.

Dies and such are no problem.

The 222 mag is a better round than the 223 and only reason the 222mag went by the wayside is because the military addopted the the 223.

Well, thanks for the info and tips guys. I bought the gun and scored 100 rounds of virgin brass plus dies from a member here. Now on to loading up some shells and seeing what she'll do.
Any load recipes?
