222 Remington...What On Earth is This?

Multiple boxes of Hornady Superformance Varmint 50 GR VMAX, in...222 Remington.

At least the box is shiny and sharp design...lol...

Yeah, I don't think I am going to get a 222 gun just so I can shoot this off and then have to look for more ammo of the same caliber. Think I'll just hold it, sell it, or display it for the sharp design of the shiny box...

Spoken like a True gun Nut ;)
You can always take up reloading if your worried about availability down the road.

That is how I ended up with my first 20g. Was at Cambodian tire to grab some wiper fluid and by habit looked at the gun section. Saw what looked like remington 12g slugs on sale for $3/box so I said screw it and asked for the whole stack of them. It wasn't till I went to put them into an ammo box at home that I realized I had 13 boxes of ammo I couldn't use.

Cambodian Tire...lol....my Timmy's iced coffee just took detour up my nose as I was laughing so hard...

Ah, the 20g. I got one too but that is mostly due to my smaller stature - got the 870 "youth model" in 20ga. That was intentional, though.

It warms my heart to hear these stories of "ammo first, then gun" even if that was caused by the same presumption that ended up getting me the owner of this here 222 rounds. In shiny boxes with sharp graphic designs (almost looks like a high end golf ball box packaging).

Interesting a poster asking me about reloading - another CGNer was asking me this today too, but sadly, I wouldn't be able to set this up, primarily because of my youngest son who will see the equipment and wonder what I am doing. I don't need him to tell his mom anything about my private life. My ex is very anti gun, and my youngest doesn't know I even have any, so will probably keep it that way and keep the overt signs to a minimum. I would like to try it one day once all the kids are adults (I am 1/3 of the way there....lol)

I grew up with Rem 788's in 222 dominating the local turkey shoots. Not pretty but pretty accurate. I still have mine and I think my brother kept his as well. Easy cartridge to work with to develop accurate loads for. Been thinking about taking mine to the range this summer for a session or two.

Hey friend...if you need rounds...you know to call! ;)

Best varmint shot I ever made was this exact same rifle with 6x42 Leupold. Wile E
was running away from a call in after the wind shifted. Held for back of its head and by some strange miracle looked back over its shoulder at us while still running away.
Instead of back of head shot the 50 grain SX hit it through its right eye at 200 yards.Impossible shot to duplicate.

The 222 was my dad's "go to" Springbok rifle. He took a large amount of them with it.

I love my 222s. I have had as many as 4. Sold them all but one, a 700 that shoots lights out. Of course I too have bought ammo for guns I did not own "yet" that's how I ended up with a 38 Super and 6.5 Creedmoor.

Reminds me of 2 months ago my wife was going to visit her mom and I asked her to stop by the gun store local to her mom to look for items I needed, in particular, some 308 168gr match bullets for reloading. Before she left I showed her the box, we wrote down the part number, and I told her they come in boxes of 100 for around $60. I told her I would take 2 boxes if they had some. She came home a few days later with 4 boxes of 308, 168gr match LOADED AMMUNITION to the tune of $67 a box.... I guess I can't complain since if she was any smarter she probably wouldn't have married me :p

$67.00 a box????

I know it's a different caliber, but I feel better now...makes my purchase seem like a bargoooon...haha.

I've had 3 BSAs in 222, a Savage 340, a Rem 600 rechambered from 222 to 223 and a Remington 700. I've even had a Steyr SL fullstock in the 222 Remington Magnum.
I'll definitely buy another...

Haha, good to know I have joined the elite "Brotherhood of Ammo But No Gun For It Yet". Nice to know I am not the only one in this predicament.
