223/5.56 spent casing marks

Hey All.

Before I start I did try searching this forum for answers. I did find some answers on some other forums but would like to verify the possible answer and get a reason for it.

Went to the range today and noticed all my spent casings have an indentation just below the shoulder.

My research suggests ejection marking but I don’t understand where it’s hitting to get that mark.

Some info on the rifle
MRA 18.6 5R 223 wylde barrel.
Brownells lightweight BCG
Superlative adjustable gas block
Two cases I used this outing. IVI and Speer Nickel.
23.3 gr of Varget with 68g Hornady Match.

Forgot to mention it’s ejecting at the 430-5 o’clock

that dint/ mark is so small... i would not worry about it... run it through the tumbler and it will be gone

you need to look through the scrap bucket at the range to find some interesting stuff
 
The brass is banged off the receiver. Depending on loads, ammo, pressure how hard or fast the bolt comes back the extractor pulls one side of the brass pulling the case mouth out of the chamber first so hard the empty end point back at you. that end of the brass bounces off the receiver. search you tube for this video. I check the video. I think I may be over gassed. Will play with the gas block and see if the marks disappear. Thanks everyone.

Normally, if it's over gassed it will eject forwards, to the 1 or 2 o'clock position.

That mark is truly nothing to be concerned over.

correct mark is not abnormal. Look at the bolt and extractor, the spent case is pulled backward out of chamber, gripped on one edge of the rim by the extractor. Right side gun it gets grabbed on full battery or full forward locking action. Same as forwarding your bolt, usually your last part of pushing your handle down in pushing the extractor over the rim of there round. Extractor grabs the brass you fire/ or not... regardless pull the bolt round is extracted, thrown small end first and if you pull a bolt gun fast you can get dancing brass....

Absolutely nothging to worry about. You should see what a Crapabee does to 6.5 Grendel brass with their too small brass deflector and what a T97 does to brass. You can never reload brass that comes out of a T97.
