.223 / 5.56 Swaging Options

Hey everyone, I'm mulling over options for swaging about 4000+ 5.56 brass. I've had the gear to reload .223/5.56 for a while now, but have just used the stock of ammo i've purchased when they are on sale (here's looking back at canada ammo's PMC sales!).

Anyways, my main press is a Dillon 650XL and i've been looking at the 3rd party "Swage-It" tool for it. I'm concerned about too much upward pressure on the shell plate with this press, essentially cracking the shell plate. I don't know if this is true, or another internet rumour. Anyone use this on their 650?

I like the idea of having a large/small swager in the press to do an initial brass processing run before doing the loading. This will probably lead me to buy the RT-1500 case trimmer to completely process the 223/5.56 on the press. And i'll probably pre-process all my 9mm to make it easier.. I hate running into crimped 9mm brass.

Other options would be to buy the Hornady swaging die for my single stage. I've resized all of my brass so far on the single stage and have a Frankford Arsenal case trimmer / prep center for the resize. It's a complete PITA to do on a single stage in quantity.

Ugh, then i'll be looking into getting a friggin Mark VII 650 autodrive for the press.

So I guess i'm really asking, why the hell didn't I buy a super 1050 instead of a 650XL. :d
 
Eh man I'm going throu the same as you!!! I went out and bought all the stuff.... eBay for the swagger tool for the xl 650...works but you have to constantly retighten the two screws.... comes loose after some time....
So it depends on how you wanna go at it ..... you either do it on the super swage 600 or on your press either way it still takes time..... love it or hate it
Myself I do a deburr step with a counter sink bit on a cordless drill first then I'll put it throu my press to swage it ..... ya I know it takes longer but I know it works .....it adds another step to reloading
 
I suggest an offline swager. Dillon super swage is $$$ but works well. The inside of the case is supported when the punch resizes the primer pocket. So there is no fear is damaging the case rim or shell holder.

Once you get going it works quickly. 4000 might take you a while though.
