hi all looking for experienced input, been prepping a lil more than 1k cases, theyre all 1F by me out of my 14.5 norc AR, less than 200 are 223, rest are norc 556, after decap, tumbling, resizing in RCBS AR SB dies, trimming, chamfer & deburring, i've got 20 that less than the case head sticks out of the go-no go guage, any ideas on what may be happening?

I buy a lot of once fired Lake City 5.56 brass and it is first resized with the RCBS AR Series small base die. And at the top of the ram stroke I pause for 4 seconds and this reduces brass spring back. Meaning the cases end up more uniform in length from shoulder to base or cartridge headspace.

Cases of different manufacture or hardness can end up at different lengths due to brass spring back and pausing at the top of the ram stroke may fix this.

You did not say "how" you adjusted your die or if it is making hard contact with the shell holder and the press reaching cam over?

I use Redding competition shell holders to adjust shoulder bump without adjusting or moving the die in the press.

Bottom line I think brass springback is your problem so either try pausing or adjust the die for the longer cases.
