.223 68 gr. Hornady BTHP Match load is a real winner!

I bought an MVP last year from Reliable and it shoots great. The only problem I had was with Norinco 223 ammo (yellow boxes) I ran out of IVI at the range and had some of the Norinco. I had a primer pop and a very small portion of the primer lodged inside the firing pin channel which locked it up, preventing the firing pin from striking the primer. Had to disassemble the bolt to clean it out.
Nice gun for the money I was looking at the Ruger but I like the bench stock and the fact it uses the AR mags.
The price really jumped I only paid around $550 + tax and shipping that's the stripped gun no scope or bipod.
But $1600 or $1700 for one all tricked out is too steep in my opinion. Is that all in tax and shipping?

I shoot the 68 BTHP in my 223 trainer (M700 with a 24" 1-8 Hart, 223 Wylde chamber).

I couldn't get it to shoot well at all with H4895. My current load is 22.9 gr. AR Comp (only because I have a ton of it). Only load 223 on my XL-650, but AR Comp seems to meter very well:

I will be switching to Benchmark when I run out of AR Comp. 21.8gr. gives ragged holes and this stuff meters like a ball powder.

I know its not a good idea to recommend specific loads but I found a really accurate one this evening.
We were shooting at 300 meters and I tried some hand loads that I was working on. The best load produced stellar results ( at least for me...

RIfle- Mossberg MVP

Scope- Barska 4-16 x 56

Load- Hornady 68 gr HPBT over 23.5 gr H4895 powder and lit by a Winchester WSR primer. The brass is recent manufacture Federal with the light crimp on the primer pocket (swaged out before loading). Bullet seated to 2.250".

Shot at the PEIRA range from the 300 meter point. Grouped at .85 inches.

Chicka Bah Wah!!!!

Disclaimer: Do not use this load. You may die. Or you may be blown to smitherines. If you see a little martian wearing a roman helmet he may be waiting for the earth shattering Kaboom!

Seems low on powder, sure it's H 4895 or is it IMR 4895?

Yes, it was H4895. I don't like to load up to max. I start low and try to find the node where the group size comes together nicely.

Since the last post, I have taken off the Barska scope (not that there was anything wrong with it) and upgraded to a Vortex Viper HS LR 6-24x50 with XLR reticle. Ordered a 20MOA EGW rail for it too. Can't wait to see how it shoots! Ironically, I found the scope mounts were not even snugged down when I removed the old scope.
