Does anyone know where I can get ammunition for my 20" Colt AR with 1/7 twist? I'm looking for 1000 rounds with 69+ grain bullets and brass cases. Getting ammo is so difficult, I've considered just giving up on shooting competitively and just plinking from time to time. No one ever seems to have either ammo or decent bullets (heavier than 55 gr) in stock (I will reload if I can find the components). I've never been involved in a sport where the basic necessities are near impossible to find. Imagine if there was a shortage of hockey sticks all of the time and sometimes teams didn't have enough to play . . . and the price went up 50% every year.

If you like 69gr projectiles, Xreload has Lapua 69gr Scenar (HPBT) at $291.17/thousand. Awesome price for a great 223 bullet.

Edit: just noticed they have Lapua 77 gr as well. $337.59/thousand.

Those are good prices on the Lapua's, but none in stock and time is getting short.

gewehr76, I have doubts about your statement that 55's are as good as heavier bullets. That may be true at 100-200 m, but at 400 and 500 m, I've noticed that the standard Federal AR223 55 gr. rounds from Canadian Tire start to suck.

I started into reloading same reason everyone and their grandma have 55gr but anything bigger is scarce but lots of stock for reloading heavies so I wanted to reload my 308 anyways so got the dies for 223 and never looked back

Im just getting my first .223 are the steel cased rounds terrible? Does the heavier bullets really make much difference? I only ask because I went down to 130g from 150g on my .270 and found it more accurate.
