I have a Howa/Axiom in .223, that has a 1:12 twist heavy profile barrel, and am curious what grain of bullet has historically performed the best with this combo. From what I understand, 55 grains probably is the max for best stabilization. I am currently running factory ammo, and this is my coyote gun.

Any help regarding is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brad

I have a 1:12 Ruger bolt action rifle and it really likes the cheap Winchester 45 grain varmint bullets. They group well at 200 yards. Surprising performance for what used to be quite inexpensive ammo. Not sure how they perform on game though, just used the rifle at the range so far.

I had a Ruger heavy barrel bolt gun in .223 with a 1-12 twist that just loved 27.5 grains of Win 748 behind a 50g V-Max. Accuracy and terminal performance was awesome.
