223 and 5.56 Nato what is the difference if any??

My Son's girlfriend bought a Mosseberg MVP bolt in 5.56 Nato. Does that mean it has a different twist maybe 1:12 versus 1:10 or is it just a marketing ploy? The 5.56 and 223 are the same round right?

Mosseberg MPV has a 1:9 twist. You can feed it any 5.56 NATO or .223 round up to 75 gr bullets.
