.223 and 5.56

Well I have been mixing and matching 223/556 - 762/308 out of ar15'w/m4's/mini14s/m14s/700P's for YEARS with nary a problem...I guess it is a 'trick' tempted best by Chris Angel ???

What jennis and Stevo said:nest::popCorn: If all these .223's are going KaBoom when firing 5.56 ammo there must be thousands of pictures and warnings all over the internet. Please post some links.
On a second note can anybody point me in the right direction for some 5.56 reloading dies:rolleyes:

Did you clean it when you got it? Not to be an ass, but you say you don't know much about the insides, and you're new to the rifle.

Everyone reads the manual, familiarizes themselves, completely cleans and lubes newly purchased rifles before they fire them, right??

I can't speak for your LMT specifically, but I do know that many rifles and parts are 'preserved' for medium term storage before they leave the factory. This is not ready for firing. All new AR type rifles should get a proper teardown, thorough cleaning with solvents as required, complete bolt disassembly and cleaning, and sometimes a lot of elbow grease for the barrel. It should be assumed that any new firearm should be inspected and prepped as necessary before firing.

Generally, prep new rifle, including good lubing, and shoot it. If stoppages occur, isolate the problem, mags first if reason for the stoppage is not obvious (new/uncleaned/unlubed would be considered be considered obvious ;) ), mags are an easy 1st thing to rule out. Go from there.

All said, you sent your rifle and your mags in and got them back, I'm sure you're good to go now anyways.

Cheers

hey danger

well I did make the rookie mistake of not oiling or cleaning when I got it...I noticed that it seemed pretty lubed up so i just left as is and brought to the range...MY BAD

ya I sent it back and it was looked at and cleared to be ok. But when I went back to the range it started to do it again (this time it was oiled and cleaned). Im not blaming who i got it from because they were great!! I just think that maybe my LMT MRP doesnt like the 10 round pistol mags or the light ammo?

I just bought 2 more 5 round mags and a 30/5 round and will try them out.

Where can we buy 5.56 mm ammo in Canada? I think it is ss109?

Thank you

Most gun shops will stock some form of 5.56mm, though it is much more likely to be M193 than SS109. Winchester white box, Federal American Eagle and Remington UMC should all be loaded to 5.56x45 spec.

Marc4311, I have built and troubleshooted a couple of AR-15s, if you are in the Calgary area let me know if you need some help.
