.223 and 5.56

Not really. It is sold as .223 because it is loaded as .223.
5.56 has a higher pressure, and requires a slightly different chamber.
There are NO and I mean zero, 55gr NATO 5.56x45 loads. The crossed circle indicates NATO spec ammo when in the military supply system. In a box of federal ammo it means nothing.

Gunlover, its NATO brass in .223 retail packages and being sold as such. In a federal ammo box it means the same as is a nato marked box. Its illegal to use the nato marking on brass if it doesn't meet nato spec. so it is 556 brass. sure lower pressure and different bullet but its nato 556 brass, military spec nato brass. not tallking about the powder or projectile, just the brass. so yet nato brass 556 brass works just fine in 223's, the manufacturers think so or they wouldn't sell it as such

so by the reasoning i see here, you cant shoot 7.62 x51 out of a .308? i shoot .223 and 5.56mm out of my csa sa 58 and stevens model 200 in 223 all the time . no problems and my face ( thought ugly) is still intact. but i wont take the glory from the experts here at cgn.

ps. just so you all know, i dont hate anyone here but really- ITS PRETTY MUCH THE SAME AMMO. ive shot 10's of thousands of mixed 556 and 223 out of many diffrent rifles. and i lucky? i dont know.

Haven't i heard this before??

And I would also like to know what is being sold as surplus if it isn't?

Is there a difference between M193 5.56x45mm and NATO spec?

lol My response to the "experts" is do you think that when you buy a Springfield M14 in this country, that it was in any way changed or re-chambered and re-barreled to fire .308 Winchester? No, they re-stamped it and now you fire .308 Win in a rifle that was designed to take 7.62x51mm NATO.
Likewise with an AR-15 etc. I've also fired hundreds if not thousands of rounds mixed of both natures and had zero problems. Obviously there differences between the rounds but does it have any adverse effects on the weapons? No.
