223 bullet advice

I'm looking for advice on bullets to try for a 12 twist 223 bolt rifle. I'm mostly target shooting, but a coyote or gopher may meet one. My first thoughts were 60 gr VMax or 52 gr SMK, but I haven't tried either of them. Yay, nay, or other suggestions? Thanks.
 
I had great results with the 52 gr MK, but you should try both the 52 ge BT and the 53 gr FB to see which your rifle prefers. A 60 gr V Max might be a bit long for a 1:12, but I've never seen one, and I just assume it would be .90" long.
 
Hornady has a new 53gr V-Max with a G1 BC of .290 that looks interesting. I've always had good results with the V-Max line of bullets.
 
Great results with 50 and 55 gr Vmax. Tried Sierra 69 gr which were good as well.

My rifle did not like Speer TNT or Barndes Varmint Grenades.
 
I'd be tempted to stay at or below 55gr for bullet weight. Unless you get some freebies, it's probably not worth the money experimenting with the slow twist rate and longer bullets.
 
You are correct. I tried some Sierra 69 gr and it looked like a shotgun. Lol. Thanks for all the good suggestions!

For years mainly shot hornady 55gr spsx & some sierra 55gr hpbt. Now been shooting the v-max 40 and 55gr. Just recently discovered the hornady v-max 53gr boat tail (order #22265) and just settled on 25.8gr IMR4320 and a 2.280 oal for that load. All of the above shoot nice groups in my 12 twist 24in barrel. Heard a 12twist can shoot up to 62gr but never tried, so can't say.
 
I shoot a 1 in 12 Tikka and the 60 grain vmax works fantastic, I use varget powder groups 1/2 inch at 100 yards easily. Also have used 60 berger and 64 winchester, the 64 seems to be the limit in my rifle, have tried the 68 and 69 but they keyhole. I say try the 60 you may be surprised at the performance.

Noted also someone mentioned the 52 Sierra Match and H335 powder, this is the reccomended combination for best accuracy in the Sierra manual. Extremely accurate with a 12 twist.

i agree, 1-12 = lighter bullets so your best bet is hornady 50gr vmax with BLC2, 26gr, garantees less then .625 MOA @100yards..

however,,,,1-9, = slightly heavier , here i use 55gr hornady zombigaten (greenpack 500 vmax green plastic tips..and wow do they rip), 26 gr, BLC-2, less then .476 MOA@ 100yds, out of 26" stainless heavy fulted barrel.:ar15:
