I have a 223 and have been enjoying going to the range. I can tell I'm going to go through quite a few rounds.
I was looking at some cheaper bullets like Lake City 55 gr. They are 1000/$130. Are these capabile of decent accuracy? or should I spend the extra money at get something better like vmax?

Any other suggestions on bullets?

You will get better informed opinions and advice if you tell us what sort of rifle you have, barrel twist and what your current groups look like with certain types of ammo...

It's a Savage axis 223. I believe it has a 1:10 twist. right now I am shooting just the cheapo WWB 55gr FMJ. I also had some vmax loaded for me, but I have not had a chance to shoot at paper with them. We went out shooting bottles the other day. The only grouping information I have is 4 shots just under 1/2" at 50 yards with the WWB rounds.

Bulk FMJ bullets will not be as accurate as match grade bullets.

My .223 loves the 50gr Vmax, they are a great compromise in both cost and quality compared to cheap bulk FMJ's and more expensive match grade.

The twist is 1:9 in the axis (yes i have one) I have had the best more repeatable results with either 50gr nosler b-tip, or hornady 53gr vmax pushed with varget. For the nosler I load 25.5gr varget col 2.260 and the vmax 25.7gr varget col 2.244

I myself would look at buying a few 100rnd sample packs of 55gr Lake City and 62gr Armscore as well as some 55gr Vmax and a pound of Varget or H335... Just a guess but I think you will find the Armscore shoot minute of beer can at 200M very well... Probably further then that actually...

I had really good results with some Hornady 55gr Varmint HP's thru a friends Axis and my AR with WC735 as well...

Buy some Varget a FL and neck die and a primer pocket reaming tool and start loading.

Hornady bulk FMJ shoots fine.

Hornady match for better accuracy.... didnt test the 2 and compare.

i buy from higginsonpowders.com

I just picked up 2000 hornady 55g from reloaders.ca for $130/1000 shipped. Have not loaded any yet but they should be much better than the Armscor 55g's.
