.223 coyote load

I shoot a Coyote last year on the ice out at 100yds with a Sierra 55gr Spitzer got him in the right spot he ran to the Woods and pissed all the way found him.Going to try 60gr Nosler Ballistic Tips with Varget.

My best experience has been with Nosler 55 or 60 grain Varmint Ballistic Tips (the ones with the orange tip).

I really like how the base of the bullet is solid compared to the v-max.

Also very high "red mist" factor on gophers.

Though I no longer shoot a .223 for fur I found that the 50 gr VMAX performed best on coyotes. Dropped them, no splashes and usually a small entry w/ no exit. The less I have to sew on a hide the better. If you arent putting your fur up the 55 gr Vmax smashes them but can leave some big holes in less then ideal shots.

IF you want to go with a V-max try the 53 grain. If I remember right they have a slightly higher BC. I shoot them over a max+ charge of Benchmark. I've been really happy with them. Alternately I have used 40 grain Nosler BT varmint over a max load of Benchmark and it has also yielded some decent velocity and accuracy. The V-max are pretty hard on fur. The Nosler BT at 3650 fps are a little better.

Many love varget for accuracy, but I tried it and was giving up too much velocity to Benchmark. YMMV
