I'm trying to start reloading .233 and I'm running into a problem with my Lee dies. I'm reloading once fired hornady and Winchester brass and getting the same problem. After I've lubed the cases I go to resize and deprime, but my Decapping pin just pushes up out of the die instead of depriming the case. I've tried tightening as hard as I could but the pin still pushes up. I took out the pin and deprimed a case that way just to check that my pin wasn't to big for the flash hole. So I know that isn't the problem. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

The collet for the decaping rod on Lee dies needs to be tightened with the force of Hercules.

You have to use 2 wrenches to do it proper. a 3/4 to hold the die and a 1/2 to tighten it.

The Lee instructions say "considerable torque" with 1/2" and 3/4" wrenches are required to secure the pin. However, before you start using a 24" pipe wrench, take some careful measurements of the depriming pin to make sure it is exactly centered in the die, and not bent. Also check your shell holder to make sure the hole in the middle is big enough for the primer to drop through.

And the other thought is that in some types of brass the primer is crimped in, which makes it quite difficult to remove.

Hope that helps some...

And that the pin is positioned properly so it doesn't bottom out on the inside of the case. On my die set that works fine, the end of the pin is protruding .075" from the top surface of the nut.

Thanks guys!! Apparently I just had to put my purse down and really tighten it. I also put the pin further up. This is my 4th set of Lee's dies but the first time I've had to do that. So thanks for the suggestions!

Another method is to tighten the decapper nut down until the threads start to smoke, and then give the nut two more full turns.

(don't do this unless your willing to break your wrench when the ten foot pipe extension slips off the wrench) :stirthepot2:
