Not what I had expected at all. I guess once the pressure expanded the case the rest of the powder was blown down the barrel and didn't ignite.

I suppose since the case is only partially supported and the barrel is way over sized it acts fairly similarly to an unchambered cartridge being detonated, the pressure never gets anywhere near it's normal range because it's not sufficiently contained.
