.223 (Hornady 75 grain A-Max)

I bought a Tikka Tactical .223 in a 20" 1-8 in twist barrel. I want to reload this new Hornady 75 grain A-max bullets has anyone else tried these? Has anyone worked up a load that works well with this gun?
 
I use 25.5 gr Varget, in a long throated rifle. Shoots well, also have tried 23.5 of Benchmark, also shot well and fine granules meter well. Think my lenght was 2.515". Approach with caution reduce8% and work up. All loads with CCI Match primer and molycoated Vmax bullets. Good luck.

I'm currently working up a load for my Savage 12FVSS, so far have it at 24 grains of BL-C2, used the book length of 2.39, going to start to test longer lengths next.

Using Winchester once fired brass, and CCI BR 4 primers.

I called Hornady and they suggested setting the bullet 20thou off the lands. That involves buying an OAL gauge and a Comparitor. I am in the process of working up a few loads for my 12BVSS. I plan to use Varget for the heavy stuff and WC735 for the varmint blasters.

How to determine .020" off the lands.
Take the bolt out of your gun , drop a bullet in the chamber and tap it lightly to seat it in the lands. Put a cleaning rod with a flat end on it in the muzzle and mark the rod when it is touching the tip of the bullet. Tap the bullet out with the rod, replace the bolt, mark the cleaning rod seated to the bolt face with the bolt closed. You can now measure between the 2 marks and that is the distace to the lands. Subtract desired amount and seat the bullets to that length. If you change bullets you have to repeat the process.

Did some further development testing, and found that when I had the length at 2.510, they were going into a single whole at 50 yards, over 24 grains of BLC2.

Followed the advice for measuring to lands, I think it was 2.54, so I suspect I am just off the lands.
 
I've had great success with 23.5 gr of WC845 behind my moly'd 75 gr AMAX bullets up to 800 meters at NSCC or CFSAC, too. The 75 gr bullet is very happy in 1 in 8" twist barrels. Enjoy the load workup.
 
It ALL depends on twist rate, People!!!

Study the 'Barrel Twist Rate'... for the Ideal Bullet weight. This is very important and overlooked so often. IMHO
