No regs pertain to 'link ammo'

Prohib device would be a unpinned 'high cap' mag in excess of 5 (centerfire rifle) or in excess of 10 for handgun (except for 10 rounder for the 'new' AR Magazines)

BCLINEHAND:
Don't have the URL at hand, but suggest you read the Justice Canada regulations on magazines and feeding devices....
Any belt for a weapon designed after 1945 must be limited to 5rds....
This has been covered here numerous times....

Then I stand corrected as well.......I thought there was a 'kit' on the market for a 'conversion' to link ammo for the M96 ( robinson) to navigate around the 'mag capacity' issue....

My Bad...:(

I knew I had it someplace please read >>>> http://canadagazette.gc.ca/partII/1998/19980930/html/sor462-e.html

In particular para "f"
which says f) "is of the "belt" type consisting of a fabric or metal belt, is not a reproduction and was originally designed or manufactured for the purpose of feeding cartridges into a automatic firearm of a type that was in existence before 1945."

Anything after 1945 is much more dangerous and must be limited to 5rds.

Sorry but you are wrong and I was right , Ha Ha Ha !

You sir I owe an apology to......... I was under the impession that if you did not own or posess a firearm for such a disintgrating metal "belt" then it would be legal to own.....ie; If I did not own or posess a dan wesson 15-2 revolver it would be legal to own a 2inch barrel for the gun but.....if I did own the same gun ( with a 6 inch) the 2 inch barrel would be prohibited......without the firearm the prohibited device becomes a piece of metal......( and back to the FA act I go)

it's kinda a grey area. if it's 199 metal peices each holding 2 rounds together... as opposed to a solid belt that held 200, woudln't you have 199 metal belts that hold 2 rounds each....

Wrong......post the appropriate reg stating it as such or keep your internet lawyering to yourself.

Regulations Prescribing Certain Firearms and other Weapons, Components and Parts of Weapons, Accessories, Cartridge Magazines, Ammunition and Projectiles as Prohibited or Restricted (SOR/98-462)

PART 4 PROHIBITED DEVICES

1) Any cartridge magazine:

(a) that is capable of containing more than five cartridges of the type for which the magazine was originally designed and that is designed or manufactured for use in:...

(ii) a semi-automatic firearm other than a semi-automatic handgun

(2) Paragraph (1)(a) does not include any cartridge magazine that:...

(f) is of the “belt” type consisting of a fabric or metal belt, is not a reproduction and was originally designed or manufactured for the purpose of feeding cartridges into a automatic firearm of a type that was in existence before 1945

Link to mag regulations

To my knowledge there has never been a ruling on whether links, or linked ammo, are a "belt" under the law. I have asked several times, but never received an answer. My reading of the law say they are not.

The reg. points to belt - like the belt used by PKM, which is a non-disintegrated belt and the catridge is inserted into the belt.

C9/M249 or the C6/FN MAG58 uses distingrated links. They don't use "belt'. If the catridge is not inserted into the link, the links are just a pile of links - no belt. There is no "belt" to prohib"
