223 linked ammo ?

The reg. points to belt - like the belt used by PKM, which is a non-disintegrated belt and the catridge is inserted into the belt.

C9/M249 or the C6/FN MAG58 uses distingrated links. They don't use "belt'. If the catridge is not inserted into the link, the links are just a pile of links - no belt. There is no "belt" to prohib"

OK now I am confused .....so that means that I must be reading the firearms act again:D

disintegrating links = OK
Non disitegrating Metal Belts = Bad
do I have to now un-apologize?:runaway:

Now I am confused, I thought it was the other way around,

links = bad

non-disintegrating or cloth = good

I was under the impression that it was all about the age, and that disintegrating links were not made before the appropriate date. So you can use cloth in your M1919, but not isreali links.

It is all government lawyer bullsh-t anyway! Now my head hurts!

PAUL Z;
You may use ANY type of belt or links (any length) providing they are for a weapon designed before 1945....

HOWEVER in the case of the Israeli 1919 guns in 7.62 Nato since these are "designed" after 1945 you are limited to 5rd belts....

AS AN EXAMPLE; I have a 1919a4 with multiple caliber options....
Left in .30-06 I can use cloth or links in any length I choose.

If I convert it to 7.62 Nato by changing the cover, the barrel and cartridge stop I am limited to 5rds belts....

If I convert it to 8mm Mauser, using the original WW-11 components and links I can have as long a belt as I choose....
Remember this is all on the same gun, makes sense no ?

The same applies to my Mg-42, in 8mm OK for long belts....
If I use my H&K conversion for 7.62 Nato and feed the gun with original non-desintagrating belts, no problem....
However should I choose to laod the gun with 7.62 in M-19 links then I am limited to 5rds
Have fun
John

John,
If you did not own any firearms (hypothetically speaking) would it still be prohibited to have in your possesion a belt of linked .308 ammo?
I am thinking that the intent is not there in this case......?

I believe this is what the OP is talking about (.223 linked rounds)

its prohibited so NO you cant have it gun or not

be the same as haveing a unpinned 30 rnd m16/ar15 mag ITS the prohibited device in itself

Ok

I have a belt of 308, made up of links. How can it tell if its for a MG made before such and such a date. Why can't I just take the belt to the police station and made up of 6 to 8 rounds and have them tell me in writing if it legal. If I don't have the gun to fire belt/linked ammo, what have I done?

Because the police don't make the laws. It is likely post-45 links if it is 308.

I'm guessing it's alright to own the 'belt'. A fellow was on EE selling hundreds if not thousands of 7.62NATO links like the C6 uses.

BC LINEHAND;
Simply put, yes tere is a problem, since it is a complete belt that is at fault....

However if you own a box of links I have been led to understand that's OK

CAN AN: Is right on both fronts you can have anything with the correct permit....
Quite likely if it's .308 (7.62 Nato) then providing these are M-19 links they are a no-no

John

Michaelsaber;
Yes we did sell belted ammo in 7.92x63.
The ammo is clearly dated mid 1940s....
Most of the belts are dated 1940s....
For use in the 1919a4 obviously a gun desigend before 1945....

SO all is well
John

WOW superb agruing over the belt vs link legality when no one is pointing to the fact that the ammo is more then likely stolen from the canadian army to begin from. Where did you get linked 5.56mm ammo in canada ? prey tell grass hoper ?
