223 linked ammo ?

Thanks for the info.I plan to separate it to use it .Didn"t know about the prohib law.

Also bear in mind that if you obtained it in the condition that the military issues it in, it will be configured in a "4 ball 1 trace" format. That means each group of 4 FMJ rounds will be followed by 1 round of tracer. This isn't the end of the world, but be aware of what's downrange, as well as the increased fire hazard involved with tracer rounds - if they are indeed included in your purchase.

I'm also curious about one thing. You mentioned that you got 200 rounds in the ammo can. Is this a plastic "can" with an odd little clip on top and a slot for the belt to feed out of, or is it a large metal can about the same size as a .50 cal can? If it's the latter, that's just about my favorite size can for storage of ammo. You can fit 1000 rounds of 9mm in there if you're careful (or 950 rounds if you've modified the can to accept a combination trigger lock to make it more child resistant)

This isn't belt ammo though, it's linked. Legally I think there's a difference.

I also have to jump on the bandwagon and inquire as to who you've come up with 200 rounds of 5.56 linked. Raiding CF ranges? :runaway:

I really cant see what the deal is as to where the ammo was obtained.........I personally could care less. If it fell off a turnip wagon and the guy he bought it from found it at the side of the road ,end of story.........what we really need deciphered is the legality of owning the linked ammo.............

Ammo was in the smaller size steel can that 7.62 came in.Cardboard on each side.Gent I got it from is 74 years old,I didn"t ask where he got it.I don"t think he shot any of it and niether did I,so I don"t know if tracers are in it.He didn"t have a rifle to shoot it and niether do I.As far as I know noboby in his family is in the military. No military in my family either.

What about it I put a 200 round linked belt of dummy 3006 in one of my deact 1919a4's.

Even if its dummy ammo is there a concern or an issue I have to worry about

it doesn't matter what goes it in. the belt itself is the problem. if it's pre 194x whatever it's legal. if it's newer it's illegal, even if empty.

Isn't it great that the laws are so worded, now they confuse and befuddle the common criminal into giving up his firearm in frustration.
