Hi folks. I've searched to see if anyone has really dove into an accurate load for this neat little rifle but haven't found much. I've reloaded a bunch of .223 in my time, but not for a rifle like this and I'm just looking for a good place to start.

If anyone out there can put me on the right track for an accurate .223 load for something with a bolt-action and a barrel this short I would be in your debt!

Cheers!

old post, but I'll see if I can add something useful. I am just starting to play around with a 12.5" Bison in 223. I haven't tried any handloads yet, but I did get a 1moa 5 shot group with factory Hornady 53gr Vmax ammo. I also tried Hornady 73gr ELD factory ammo, a lackluster 1.9moa 5 shot group

I have a bunch of 50gr Hornady Vmax and 69gr Sierra Tipped Matchkings, and a bunch of powders to try. I'll report back with my results this winter

Thanks for the feedback. I tried a few things with components I had on hand based on other .223 loads I’ve worked up. I’ve since sold the rifle but I did get mine to shoot really well with some very limited load development.

Like you I found the vmax to shoot great. I loaded the 50gr vmax with Lapua brass, 25.5gr h4895, br4 primers and it was consistently sub MOA. My best group with this load was 1.18” @ 200 yards.

I also ran 69gr SMK’s in Lapua brass, 21.5gr H322, BR4’s as well. Again sub MOA. Best group was 1.75” @ 200 yards.

Both these were loaded at magazine length but I imagine I could have got even better results loading longer for single shot, at least with the SMK’s. I would have liked to try some even heavier projectiles, I think they’d work well.
