.223 loading info

Find one of the good powders (fairly common) and bullets and just start with one of the online guides to work up a load. I would just buy a pound and a box for now until you find what will shoot good in your rifle. Once you find something that does shoot good and that you are happy with it, make sure to buy a fairly good amount of em so you will always have a good stock of em.

Winchester, hornady, remington brass. I get the best accuracy form hornady go figure.

25.7gr varget
Cci 200 primer
Col 2.244"
 
Lake City 55gr FMJBT bullets or Hornady 55gr SPSX for Gophers.
CCI Small Rifle Primers
13.5gr of Blue Dot powder (500 rounds per lb of powder)
It only works in a Bolt Gun. Too fast for a semi auto.

I was just wondering if you ever did a few test to see how BLC2 shot in the winter time. Just wondering if its temp sensitive.
 
CCI BR-4 or Federal 205m are the only primers I'd put in ammo for that rifle.
24 gr. of TAC or Varget for powder.
Berger 73 or 77 gr. BT target or 77gr. SMKs loaded to 2.260" OAL
Winchester (or Lapua if it is just for that bolt gun) brass.
 
Your bullet will depend on your barrel and twist rate. 1 in 8 favours heavier. Go into the 70 's. Forget everyone's 55 gr recommendation. If I were you I would not go below 68 gr. if you will not hunt, then stick with match bullets. I like Speer or hornady.

Powder is varget, h335

Primer is whatever. Any cci will do, I use cci 250 with best results but ymmv.

I found the trick with .223 is very precise powder measuring. My 700 tlr is very powder tolerant, but I have to measure very precisely. .223 is a small case volume so a .1 gr variance has a proportionately larger effect than it would on common hunting rounds like 30-06. Your 24 inch barrel should also favour slower powders.

You got one hell of a platform for target shooting. Enjoy the journey, not just the destination.
