.223 MAK90 - reliable?

You guys are still lucky to be able to hunt bear and moose with yours Tavors and suchlike.

The Tavor is not a suitable rifle for either of those, .223 simply isn't powerful enough, but I get your point.

There are instances where our laws are better than others, we're even better than the US in some respects, such as short barreled shotguns and rifles, imports, etc. But there are instances where our laws are much worse as well. It's natural that we'd be jealous of people who get to play with toys that we can't.

I reckon you could easily take a moose with a Tavor- handloads with Barnes projectiles and tap off a six round burst to the neck.... Ok, you would have to get relatively close and have a couple of mates with T97's to back you up, but it would be do-able. Oh to live and hunt in Canada!

Hey bazza, check out TM for Saigas and you'll find a 223 A-Cat with scope and suppressor for $800 starting bid and a $1000 Buy Now - just a thought...

As for hunting, Canada has moose and bear but New Zealand probably takes the cake for variety, or at least the likelihood, of being able to hunt said game as often as you'd like ;)

Very nice looking Saiga, however I really prefer the look of the MAK90/Choate Dragunov stock. Yeah, grass is always greener isn't it? I would happily trade hunting Himalayan Thar for some black bear action. Thar is mighty fine tasting meat, but I hear black bear steaks are deeee-licious. I am waiting on a potential deal on a MAK90 and will update.

Yah, but these weren't dented, they were DENTED... like giant smiley faces. I remember the first round I fired. Gun went off, I waited to hear the brass hit the ground and looked up to see the case flying in a graceful arc and landing at least 30 feet away from me. Thought it might be a fluke but every round did it. The dents were so bad they often rendered the cases unusable for reloading. Of course in those days a 20 round box of .223 went for about $3 so it wasn't too painful. It would be a whole different story today, however.

I used to call the brass "Pac Man" brass - it looked exactly like a Pac Man, massive dent in the case mouth.
