Hey guys,

When I measure bullet seating length in my 10FP with a 69gr nosler I get 2.330 and with the 75 gr a-max I get 2.435. My reloading manual states that the max SAAMI OAL for the 223 is 2.260. Is this limitation only because of magazine length? I'd like to load those 2 bullets closer to the lands in possible.

Could I load the 2 bullets longer than 2.260 ....say 0.030 of my lands and load them single shot?

Thanks,
Radar

Yes, you can - if you look at the books, you'll see different OAL's based on the bullet. Each bullet will have a different shape, and if you want to seat them close to the lands, each OAL will be different.

Just start the loads at 10% below maximum and work up, watch for signs of pressure.

My 75 gr Amax in my Savage are seated at 2.520.

Hi Radar. I load a Sierra 69 gr matchkings to 2.350" in my Savage BTVSS (25.8 gr Varget). I have to load single shot as using the internal magazine the bullet hits the bottom edge of the chamber when the action is cycled to close.

Hi Rkaine. I haven't had much luck shooting 75 A-max's accurately. What load are you using?
