Hey out there!. A question for the experienced black rifle shooters. What kind of accuracy can you expect, (generally speaking), from .223. To give a better idea: I have been planning on getting into an AR, gone through all the variations - assembly myself, purchase new complete, used complete, on and on. My local gun store has a DPMS panther 24" bull special, and I am seriously considering grabbing it. So my decision hinges on how accurate it can shoot, (with practice of course). I'll be starting with factory rounds, but I do plan on getting into hand loads eventually.
Thanks in advance.

One shooter here regularly prints 1" groups at 200yd with his Panther Bull and 69gr handloads. The gun is stock from the factory, he just added a 24x scope. I have no idea what you mean by medium distance, but this may give you some idea of the accuracy that is possible.

thanks for the reply, yeah, o forgot to state what I meant by med, distance. I was thinking 200-300 yards, (not sure if that is considered med distance or not).

alot of shooting is limited depending upon the range distance you have access to shoot at.

I only shoot F-class with my .223 bolt gun, but one day a buddy came out with his Target AR. Forget the make now.. I think 24" 1-7 heavy barrel. Anyway, I tried some of my 80grn SMK's through it, single shot not mag fed, and it printed a very nice 20 shot 1.5" group at 300 yards, it was approx .75-1" wide with the 1.5" being vertical which could have been dialed out with load tuning. I was impressed to say the least.

I'm shooting a 24" Krieger barreled AR and I can keep 10 shots at just under an inch at 100 yards. I hope to improve on that with some better ammo, as supplies were scarce last summer, but it gives me an idea of the worst case scenario by looking at a group of 10 shots.
