Quick question, I just purchased and finished setting up my Lee 223 dies. I resized 10 rounds and noticed these lines that go all around the necks, I can even feel them with my nail.

I looked into it and I'm not the only one who has had this happen... some seem to say the die is at fault, some say it's perfectly normal for Lee die to do this.

Thoughts ?!

PMC 223 Once fired brass
Cleaned the dies before use
Using spray lube, but feel little to no resistance when sizing.

Did you clean the dies before you used them? There could be some preservative lube in there but....those rings are not normal and it is certainly not normal for lee or any other dies to leave such marks.

I always clean my dies before use. I decided to take it all apart for a better cleaning and inspection... popped a flash light in and I have the same lines on my die. It's scrap -_-

Thanks guys! I'll be returning this.

Interesting. I found a 308 at the range the other day (primer was struck, but no powder in it...) with the same rings. The crimp on this was IMHO over the top, and it took quite the effort to dislodge the bullet from the casing with my kinetic puller. The case also had definite lines in the neck parallel with the bullet position as well. I'll try and post some pics.

Gents, I ended up polishing the interior of the die with some mothers and a bore mop on a drill. Lines are gone!

Cheers.

I do this with all my Lee FL dies but use a mild honing compound first, then a polish.
They leave the final finishing a little short...

I decided to look at my other LEE dies and noticed that they're a lot rougher then I expected. My other dies don't leave marks, but I'll definitely polish them as well when I get a chance.
