Under 200 yards, I will use .223 for 200 yards+...22.250 is the KING of the hills, no questions about it. .243 also kicks a$$ on predator varmints. I hope this will help you.
I have both, but I started my hunting rifle batter with a .223! Then I added another M700 to the Remington stable with a .22-250. Now I have both. I love the 50 gr Vmax bullet for my earth pig (read: groundhogs) hunting for both platforms. Fantastic results on varmints. This winter I'll go out in search for some 'yotes.
This summer, I shot the 75 gr. Amax bullet out of my LTR barreled .22-250 out to 800 meters at Connaught. Great results....
Hope you have fun in the search for a .223 or .22-250. Keep us posted on the hunt!
Well thank's again to everyone for getting back to me I appreciate all the info on both calibres. I always find myself reserching the items I want to death it's not always a good thing. LoL Racking my brain. My friend is thinking about getting somthing in a 6.5x284 should be interesting to try.
I have both. Sako 22-250 and Sig 550 .223. The 223 drops substantially more but is more fun to shoot, perhaps cuz you can hammer such a hail of lead quickly. 22-250 is a bangin gun though. 2 coyotes/1 day @ 460 yds......that was a great day!! The 250 has a Swarovski 6-24 and the 223 a Leopold 6.5-25. Low light is the only time you notice the diff. The Swar still shows and hits the gongs when the Leo quits. Both are fairly pricey setups so save you money and get the good stuff.......otherwise, ya gotta trade up later.
