.223 or .243

Well, I decided on a new Savage 10FLP .223. Picked it for $550.00 at Goble's, which I think was a really good price. Looking forward to the next weekend with some nice weather to try it out.

That should be a great gun for you, and I don't think that you'll be disappointed with the 223.
after owning 2 already, I've got another, and hopefully the one for the rest of my life, on order. The 223 is one of those cartridges that when I'm without it, something doesn't quite feel right in my collection. Like the 30-06, it just does the job that it needs to do, and reloading or ammo are cheap.

Go for the gusto, get either a .257 roberts, or better yet, a .25-06 That'll put a hole in em real good!!! And bigger stuff if need be.

I have a .223 Savage VLP in the mail. Bought .223 for long barrel life, cheap ammo, plentiful brass bullet types/weights etc. Also have a 30-06:

'In my town I have problem...
And that problem is ammo...
Is very hard to find...
So I buy common round...'

If I had been able to get any of the Savages in a leftie bolt I would have got one of them but nothing was available when I bought and was not likely to be for quite a while so for the most part it was between the T3 lite and the CZ527. I went with the CZ because the action is actually a downscaled Mauser action designed for the 223. It weighs as much as my bolt 22lr and shoots better than I can. I am in the process of working up loads and as it turned out the 223 was a wonderful cartridge to learn to load with too. I must be careful though cuz my wife is giving longing looks. It is a real good thing she is right handed.

I seperate my brass .223Rem for my Rem 700 (chambered in .223 REM)and 5.56 for my Colt Sporter! I don't know if my Rem is bad but it will lock up bad with the 5.56 !
So I just use .223 Rem in it ,any one else have this problem?

It is not your Rem 700 that is bad. 5.56 ammo is loaded to higher pressures and
i heard it is also thicker brass meaning you should use less powder to achieve the same pressure as .223 brass.

I think the .223 is loaded hotter,but there might be neck differences and throat problems,I don't know so I just don't shoot the 5.56 in the .223 Rem any more!

Factory 5.56 is hotter than factory .223. Also, .223 rifle chambers are tighter and have shorter leade. Experts recommend not firing 5.56 in .223 rifles for these reasons:

Agreed and agreed but I am tempted to get a .204 some time down the road. Maybe next year after I start reloading.

My township in Southern Ontario (Bertie Township) has a by-law that states only 22 calibre rifles are allowed (all 22's) so even the 243 is out of the question for me so I decided on the 22-250.
