223 or 5.56 to 223 wylde conversion...

A .223 can be altered...it requires a .223 Wylde reamer... Basically you are making the chamber sloppier in some areas so the crappy military ammo can be used... but not as sloppy as a 5.56 chamber.

Backhand winner down the line.... :)

Dennis, do you think there is a significant accuracy difference potential between a .223 chamber and a .223Wylde chamber shooting .223rem match ammo as opposed to crap ammo?

I guess any time you have two different chambers and barrels there will be differences, but the small difference in chamber dimension.... seems minor?

The only obvious advantage is "one size fits all" and probably not what a match shooter would choose but for the rest of us mortals I'm curious how much of a difference it would make?

Do people re loading .223 wylde chambers with .223 rem dies have problems with brass life or accuracy?

Not trying to be a ####, just curious.... :)

I have chambered a couple but I have no personal experience. I don't understand why someone would want to install a quality barrel at great expense, buy Lapua brass and expensive dies to get the best accuracy possible with quality bullets, and then make a chamber so you can shoot military ammo...

That doesn't make sense for sure.
It only makes sense really for AR platforms where match grade is not a primary concern and ability to use cheaper ammo for bulk training is wanted.

The .223 Wylde chamber was designed to improve the accuracy when 5.56 NATO, IVI 62 gr bullet was issued for competition at the a DCRA. This chamber also worked very well when Sierra came out with their 80 bullets. I have two .223 target rifles that I have shot out to 1000 yards, both have .223 Wylde chambers. Both have quality SS match barrels and I use Lapua brass and quality 80 gr bullets. Both of these rifles will keep up with a .308 with 155 gr bullets at 1000 yards.
