ive got pistol mags, 10 rounds is great (loose 1 round with ranger plates)

my question is, why are they made to fit almost flush in the magwell?
is there some sort of law that states they cant be made taller/longer but still capped to 10 rounds maybe with a crimped side ot pinned the same way our glock mags are pinned?

on questars site it says:
Questar's 10 Round LAR-15 'Pistol' Magazines fit all standard .223/5.56 AR Rifles and Pistols...

Classified by the RCMP as 'Pistol Magazines' they are manufactured exclusively for Questar by Ammunition Storage Components (ASC) using the same drawings, dies, etc. previously used by our last supplier, and are legal for use in BOTH AR Rifles AND AR Pistols.

------
so basically they have them made for them by ACS, so, having them made to the same length as the pmag 20 should be possible, but why isnt it done?
if we are permitted to put on our own base plates (like the ranger plates) cant we technically have a much bigger base plate that would make them seem closer to a 20 or 30 round size for ease of mag changes and grabbing them out of chest rigs or whatever you may use.

I just bought 2 LAR mags for each one I wanted to use. Coupled them together, put a magpul on the bottom.

Sure, costs double of what a mag would otherwise do, but at least it fits pouches nicely, and looks much better as a 30-round mag shape. I just wrapped hockey tape around the joint.

ya ive got the coupler that makes 2 mags join bottom to bottom/baseplate, its alright, and i wrapped electrical tape around it.
ive got the magpul ranger plates on other ones..

but neither of these options are ideal.

Or just buy .50 Beo magazines. Get the proper size and 15-18 rounds instead.

got some on order...

TV, I don't say this to many guys but, you're a tease.

I'd have to say it's due to efficiency. Why use extra material making them, and thus increase costs? Also it does allow for them to be easily differentiated between. They are designed for an intelligent society, not Canada.
Imagine, in a world similar to our own, Magpul made pistol mags that had the same body and feed lips as their rifle mags but said pistol magazine. The RCMP would knock them down to 5 rounds.

this is more or less what i was looking for, thank you.

i wish they would just make the pistol mags the size of a 20 rounder... i bet they would sell even more of them... well right now they are sold out anyway.

My understanding of the way things went down was that Questar tried to bring in 10/30 mags and the RCMP said, nope. I'm sure there's a very old thread to dig up in which Mark states this in person.

That is my understanding as well. They tried to submit them as 20, or 30 rounders pinned to 10.
RCMP said no way. Resulting in the more distinctive LAR we know now.

ya that makes sense...well not really but the RCMP saying no to a larger size pinned to 10 is believable.

i wish someone would make a baseplate extension. sure, i could screw a wooden block onto the current base plate and paint it black but i dont want to do that.

interesting... but i wouldnt cut up pmags to do that.

are those yours? how are they attached?

The Pmags are were botched doing a mod for airsoft,so they were free.

I made a custom block that gets bolted to the Lar base plate then slides into the mag extension
and that is secured by 2 split pins that are visible in the photo.I just put the tape on to make the
joint look cleaner.

Would you be kind enough to show a picture with the tape off. Excellent idea by the way
