Going through the brass bin getting ready to roll some rounds up. I have a bunch of 5.56 IVI 86. Not having used surplus brass in 223 before any different protocals for using this brass? Strange thing is I have IVI308, IVI303, and some IVI5.56 sitting around. All of the 7.62 and 303 are anealed some of my IVI5.56 is anealed and some of it is not any particular reason for this?

All brass is annealed during manf. In fact, some are annealed multiple times.

Almost all commercial brass is final polished, military stuff may not be. If not, you can see the darker colouration on the neck and shoulder. If polished, that will be removed.

The only thing to watch for in military brass is to remove the crimp around the primer pocket. I use a Lyman crimp remover and with a twist, all done.

Military brass usually has a lower volume so definitely use a start load and work up.

Otherwise, no difference. All the usual brass steps apply.
