.223 recommendations please

Now that I think of it, the slower twists of the 222's probably won't do you any favors for the 223 you are looking for. Never mind what I said, although, if you got the heavy weight like mine for the price I paid I think you could re-barrel it for very close to your price range. I have thought of doing that myself but I like the .222 cartridge too much.

Depends how long you want to wait and if you will consider a used firearm or not. I found a nice sako heavy weight (L461 Vixen Varment) for $600. It is a .222 and I believe it could easily be reamed out to .223 rem or .222 mag, correct me if I'm wrong people. The gun is an excellent target gun.

And here it is again on the top. The middle is an AI .222 that I paid $1000 for with the scope and rings, and the bottom is an AII in 22-250 that I picked up for $500 without the scope.

Also, my friend has an older Remington 722 in .222 rem of course, that is capable of shooting through the eye of a needle. They are usually fairly priced and could also be reamed out. There are a lot more options if you are considering buying used.

Good luck.

If a nice rifle like that fits, I wouldn't bother reaming it out to .223 as .222 will do the job well enough. If you aren't reloading yet, start, and common availability of .223 ammunition will soon fade to insignificance.
