Looking for some advice on what combo (Projectile & Charge) that people have had good accuracy successes with. I'm primarily hunting coyote with my .223. I know a lot of people like the Varmint Grenade projectile but do people know what kind of hole is left in the hide (Big/Small)?

Just looking to hear what people are using and how they perform.

Thanks

Grenades are temperamental to get to shoot.

40gr vmax usually won't exit. 50gr vmax occasionally exits. The 50's fend wind drift a bit better.
H335, benchmark, those will work.

I use hornady v max but have used Sierra bulk also . 223 is easy to reload get whatever is in the books at volume because they all shoot different than each other , it's nice to stick with one load so whatever you put in hits where you expect. 55 grain works good on coyote and varmint usually one small entry and fragments inside . Fmj go right through and only kill quick if you hit somthing vital

I shot a fair sized kangaroo with a 55 gr Hornady soft point. Exit hole was fist sized.

If you want a good pelt, you need a bullet that blows up inside. Some 50 and 55s are designed to do that. A lighter bullet would, but would have more wind drift. If you shoot over 100 yards, wind becomes an issue.

I'd sooner have them dead with a hole that can be stitched if you want than have them run away wounded or not found
Percentage is up with somthing like the vmax on no holes and if it hits so it leaves a hole O WELL what a bullet does depends on where it's placed but I shoot lots of coyotes on the run SO ---

Thanks for the info guys. Yes I'm not so concerned as to what the hole ends up being as long as I can shoot consistent. I think I'll probably start with the Vmax. I live in SK so wind is always a factor. It's never not windy/breezy here.

This last year I used the 65gr GK's with varget and they worked pretty good knocking them down, but I had a few just blow right through them. I guess its expected since its made for deer like animals.

This year Im using the 69gr TMK's and varget. Ive seen/read some really good things about these rounds on coyotes. Wont know till the winter time on how they work out or not though. They are shooting nice so far.

Titch definitely let me know how those 69gr TMK's do this winter. What type of Varget are you using? I was researching it a bit and their were several powders by Varget that sound good for .223 loads.

Sorry this is an edit to my last post. Haven't figured out the quote feature yet.

Rgr will do. I usually make threads on some of my hunt. Didnt really this year though.

I dont know what you mean by different powders by varget. Im shooting 25.5gr of varget with the 69's right now.

Shot a raccoon today with the 69's. Didnt really pencil through by the looks of it, the backside blew out pretty good. It was hard to tell where it entered because I caught the little bandit looking for duck eggs and when he saw me he ducked down as low as he could go hoping that I didnt see him, but that didnt work out for him to well. :)

I go with benchmark and 55gr VMax's. Groups well but no idea about exit holes as I can't seem to leave the house coyote hunting without taking my 22-250 instead.
