223 Reload Costs?

I looking to start reloading all my 223 in Sept, should have about 2000 rounds to do.

What does a bullet or 50 rounds usually end up costly you? And where do you get your primers, bullets, etc from?

Bullets are the most costly component, accounts for more than 50% of reloading costs.

I used to reload my .204 Ruger and it came to about $0.35 per round, your .223 should be close to that, perhaps cheaper depending on bullet type you choose.

I always bought my powder and primers local because of the hassle with shipping them. You could save a bit buying in bulk if you have 2000 rounds to do. Check some of the board sponsors.
 
I buy most of my stuff through wholesale sports. I use a 68 Hornady HPBT Match bullet, but they are the same price as 69 grain SMKs the Hornady's just have a bettter BC. I use 25 grains of Varget. My price is:

Bullets: $22/100
Primers: $42/1000
Powder: $32/pound
Brass: Free (I've never bought .223 brass, so much on the ground!)

Cost per shot: $0.22+$0.042+$0.114= $0.376

So 37.6 cents a shot x 20= $7.52 a box for match ammunition.

If I used a cheaper bullet, like bulk FMJ 55 grain I could get my bullet price down to 13 cents or so a round, which would make a box worth $5.72.
 
the cost for loading my 222 rem ammo,with components bought loacl runs between 40-50 cents per round depending on the components used.still cheaper than 1.30-1.50 per round for factory.
 
32-34 cents per round here.

Hornady 55gr SP ($16-17 per 100)
Winchester SR primers ($35/1000)
H335 ($27/lb)
Brass ($30/500 once fired)


Now once you add shipping and the cost of tools etc, it can be a big initial investment.
 
I have 2 loads.... One with Nosler BT (50gr) and the other with PRVI SP (50gr). The combination of which get run through 4 different rifles. M700, Ranch Rifle, Mini-14 target and an AR.

Cost per 1000 for the Nosler $345

Cost per 1000 for the PRVI $215

That is including Match primers and the cost of 1xf brass.

Cost break down is like this;
Brass $35 (SFRC)
Primers $40/1000 (Fed GMM)
Benchmark $30/lb
Bullets $60/250 Nosler or $110/1000 PRVI (Mystic Percision)

I agree with getting your componants locally as shipping is a killer. I buy powder by the lb when testing stuff out and when trying out new bullets, but I usually wait until the local g-show comes around to REALLY load up once I have a load finalized. There is one fella who always comes with a trailer load of reloading supplies and his prices are the best anywhere.
