223 rem 700 VTR + 40gr Hornady V-MAX = ?powder?

I'm looking for a powder for 223 40 gr v-max in a rather short barrel - only 20". Has anybody had any experience of the kind? I tried imr 3031, it groups under 1moa, but I think it's a bit slow for such a barrel. They say one can use imr 4227 or imr 4759 - but these are handgun powders, I fear the pressure will rise too fast. Any thoughts?

try some Benchmark powder

H335 works very well with 40gr v-max in my 22" barrel .as above you might try benchmark .H335 and benchmark are side by side on the burn rate chart.

3031, benchmark,h335,h322,n133 are in the sweetspot.

what is your rate of twist

4227 and 4759 are a little fast for that.

My savage didn't like H322 but it loves BL-C2.

You speak of even slower powders. Did anybody use imr 4198 for example?
