How much cooler would a barrel run if you down load? Say if you are running 62gr.fmj at about 2500fps vs. 2900to 3000fps.
Would you notice any difference over a 100 shot string?

Unless you are mag dumping, barrel heat is not going to much of an issue.

Accuracy is a bigger issue. Load ammo with (e.g. 22-25 gr) in 0.5 gr increments and see if there is a sweet spot for accuracy.

Unless you are shooting 500 yards, the actual velocity does not much matter. Just need enough powder to cycle the rifle and then look for accuracy.

Hmmm.....by any chance would this question be applicable to an 80 shot string near the end of July? LOL

Good question. I have run my rifle so hot in the summer, you can't even pick the brass up without burning your fingers long after it's been shot. I think there is a point of diminishing returns on cooling after so many rounds go downrange after a certain velocity.
